An old soul enters the world like an aged man. Carrying forth a wealth of life’s knowledge, the absent parts are already forgotten. The old soul is filled with the wisdom of a stoic man.
Is awakened with the spirit of the Lord.
Is disciplined with compassion, empathy, and peaceful resolve.
Is hallowed with common sense and is unmoved by the follies of a foolish man.
Is hardened with the anger of a woman scorned.
Is acquainted with sorrow and grief that comes from great loss.
Is anguished with pain as a woman in labor.
Is encumbered with the burden of guilt from sin.
Is brightened with light that pierces the darkness.
Is lifted with the joy of a newly minted child swaddled in a parent’s arms.
Is deepened with faith that is accompanied by love and hope.
Is comforted with warmth shared from a deep embrace.
Is spurred with relentless perseverance like an overburdened mule climbing a steep grade.
Is tempered with steadfastness that comes from being loyal to what is true.
Is humbled with gratitude for the many blessings in life.
Is softened with the presence of the Lord.
Is inherited with the knowledge that free will is a holy gift from God.
Like twilight to the darkness of night, no matter how wise, the old soul shall pass. Upon the threshold of his earthly domain, the old soul knows he has little understanding of the world to come.
